(This is the beginning of the story I’m trying to write now, which is the second one after the story I’m posting on my blog in serialized form, The Gods Defense. The Writing 101 assignment today (found here: http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_assignment/writing-101-day-two/) was to write about a place you want to be and this is what I came up with. My question is: What feeling do you get from this scene?)
The waves sloshed up lazily on the beach ten feet down from my lounge chair, a soothing balm on the soft, white sand. That intoxicating strong smell of water and minerals you only get from the ocean washed over me with the fruit tinted breeze.
Spring-breakers played volleyball down the beach, squealing load enough for the sound to carry over our low radio, playing some bouncy pop music. Mom’s choice. I’m a little more country.
I peeked over my Kindle at my mom. She was sitting up on her chair, sipping something alcoholic and fruity through a Skittle-colored straw almost absentmindedly, attention locked on the latest action adventure James Rollins.
We had to get back to the hotel and gussied up for my conference dinner tonight, but I could give her another five minutes. Neither of us had seen a beach in nearly ten years.
Which was ridiculous because the beach was awesome!
